Why choose the Bachelor of Science
Broad opportunities
The Bachelor of Science allows students to undertake studies in a wide range of science,
technology and engineering areas.
Diverse first year experiences
There are no compulsory subjects in the Bachelor of Science; therefore students can tailor
their subjects to suit their own interests. It also means that in first year, students can
explore a number of different areas of interest.
Single discipline or multidisciplinary majors
In the Bachelor of Science, a student will choose to specialise in one particular area,
which will be their 'major'. A major can vary from being a single discipline focused major to
a multidisciplinary major that combines expertise from many science and technology areas.
Flexibility & choice
The course structure of the Bachelor of Science enables students to pursue in depth studies in
at least two different areas in the first two years of their course. This allows students to make
an informed choice about which major they choose to specialise in their last year of study.
Pathways to many careers
The Bachelor of Science prepares graduates for increasingly inter- and multi-disciplinary science
careers by offering 35 majors in areas such as:
- Engineering Systems
- Biomedical Sciences
- Chemical Sciences
- Behavioural Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Environmental Sciences
- Life Sciences
- Earth Sciences
- Mathematical Sciences
- Information Sciences
Wherever science graduates are employed, in cutting-edge research laboratories or in the applied
sciences, their breadth of knowledge about the sciences and focused specialisation by way
of a major will place them in the best position to excel in their chosen career.
